GENERAL SUBMISSION POLICIES AND TIMELINE
1. Submissions are reviewed in the order they are received.
2. We do not accept anonymous submissions, or third-party submissions.
3. We do not accept prior-published submissions, with the exception: a poet may submit poems published in a book that have not been separately prior-published in a literary magazine.
4. Submissions are not reviewed blind. Poets may include their names on the submission, or exclude the name from the submission.
5. We accept simultaneous submissions. If your work is accepted, you are expected to notify those journals of your acceptance.
6. Each submission is considered by two editors. If two editors do not select a submission for acceptance, the poet will be notified of the rejection.
7. We plan to provide response to all submissions within four months of the date of receipt. However, we experience submission peaks that lead to longer response times, particularly around the end of the calendar year.
8. In submitting for publication consideration, the author provides Day Eight/The Mid-Atlantic Review the right to publish the work, and limited re-print rights (described in more detail below), if selected, as received. The author retains ownership and all other rights.
PUBLICATION POLICIES, OWNERSHIP, RIGHTS, AND PAYMENT
9. A poet may be published in the Mid-Atlantic Review once per calendar year and twice in three years. Submissions received beyond those limitations will not be considered.
10. Rights revert to the author immediately upon publication in the Mid-Atlantic Review. If the work is republished, we ask that you credit Mid-Atlantic Review as first publishing the work.
11. We do not provide a payment for accepted work at this time, but we do nominate contributors’ work for awards.
12. While the rights to submitted works revert to the author upon publication, Day Eight, the publisher of the Mid-Atlantic Review, retains limited reprint rights. Day Eight retains the right to authorize reprint of the published work: in the print annual Mid-Atlantic Review published by Day Eight in the 12 months after initial publication; in Day Eight or Mid-Atlantic Review book anthologies; in journals, anthologies, or books, published by Day Eight, or outside entities, in memoriam.
