City Planning for the Glowing Bunny

I’m trying to understand
how three lines
and then one more
can make a square
that might become a cube,
or the side of a house.

He is telling me
about ninety-degree angles,
the simple logic
of stackable chairs,
and how the seeds we plant
end up domesticating us.

He says the city grid
began in China,
as a way to move
human waste
and that there is nothing sadder
than a house with vinyl siding
on fire.

I know it is real,
the glowing bunny.
The best we have to offer
is not the porcelain toilet,
or the light switch on the wall,
but the rabbit
he has somehow mixed
with a jellyfish.

Wheat, corn, carrots—
these seeds have led us
to this dark, square room
with the lights turned off
and the phosphorescent bunny
lit up like a birthday cake,
or a house fire.
