Bourgeon’s mission, through our online publication and community initiatives, is twofold: to increase participation in the arts and to improve access to the arts. Bourgeon is a project of the not-for-profit Day Eight.
Unlike a writer - who works alone until ‘ready’ for the editor - choreographers most frequently do not choreograph without another body, a human subject. Ideas are being observed and evaluated by your dancers, in front of your own public as it were, even as they are being created.
What has been really beautiful with this project is that there are so many similarities between the stories that I hear – nationally and internationally.

I didn’t feel any pressure to be good. I didn’t feel any pressure for the music to be good. I really didn’t care. Unfortunately maybe it’s cause the pendulum had swung back from this incredibly stressful experience.
